History: When was the Viking Age?'

(0)
A photocopiable printout, hand out, or worksheet that students can colour in and highlight as they learn about Vikings in Britain, history, and the Anglo Saxons. This sheet looks at the dates of the 'Viking Age' and can be a reminder of the abbreviation 'AD". Suitable for all ages as a stand alone sheet or part of a wider topic. This resource was created as part of my ocean row around the coast of Great Britain, following the same routes taken by the Vikings a thousand years ago. If you would like to follow the expedition, there is a weekly film documentary series on YouTube (Sarah Rows Solo) and on Amazon Prime worldwide (search 'The Great British Viking Quest'). I do live stream sessions of the boat build, and expedition on Twitter (@GBVQuest), and free virtual sessions for schools on Skype classroom. Follow the Great British Viking Quest expedition on social media using #GBVQ Website: thegreatbritishvikingquest.com

Christmas Fundraising for Schools

(0)
This is a hand written resource that I created for my class in the former Soviet Republic of Georgia, so they could raise funds for an expedition they were planning. The theme was 'Christmas' and would help them to work in groups to organise the fundraising events and to raise the budget they needed for their school trip. There are 53 fundraising activities for students, some simple, some requiring a bit more input. Please note that there are some references to our local currency (GEL) and a couple of people or places that we had connections with, but you could easily substitute these for your local currency, people, or places. World War Two Bunker Colouring Page

A colouring page I created for my students as part of our virtual field trip of Alderney in the British Channel Islands and the German World War Two bunkers. "German WW2 bunker 'The Odeon' in Alderney. This is about 3 or 4 storeys high and has an anti-aircraft emplacement at the back. Alderney is said to have been the most heavily fortified of the Channel Islands. At one time the allies contemplated landing there as a rehearsal for D-Day". Coastal Defences: Geography

(0)
A colouring page that I created for my class as part of a module on coastal defence in Britain. The page shows the bricks on the harbour wall in Alderney, British Channel Islands. Could also be used for a lesson on materials and properties or engineering. "Braye Harbour (also known as Alderney Harbour) is the main harbour on the north side of the Island of Alderney, in the Channel Islands, a dependency of the British Crown. A 3,000 feet (910 m) break-water built by the Admiralty to protect the Navy in the 19th century shelters Braye Harbour.[1][2][3] It is an artificial harbour created by building a pier or jetty. The harbour faces out onto the Swinge, which is part of the English Channel. It is here that most of the island's freight comes in. It is more or less a suburb of St Anne, which is a large settlement in Alderney that juts out on a rocky promontory on the west side, approximately 1 mile from the harbour". A settlements themed colouring page that I created for my students as they learnt about the differences between hamlets, villages, towns, and cities. This is a picture of our local pub or public house on the tiny British Channel Island of Alderney which has a population of 1000 people. We spoke about what a pub is, and that you don’t get them in all countries in the world. They are something that are fairly common in Britain and a part of British culture.

Christmas Wreath and the Vikings

In the winter time the Vikings would wreathe a wreath filled with holly and berries to celebrate the circle of life, the death and birth and to bring good fortune for the coming year. This tradition is celebrated today in Britain by the placing of a wreath on the front door.
